Roku Remotes pair with Roku using Direct WiFi. That is why you cannot use the original Roku remote, if you want to get rid of WiFi.
NOTE: You would need to buy a third party Roku IR remote for these settings to work.
Note: If you unplug Roku, the original Roku remote will start firing WiFi signal, looking for the box, using up the battery in the process. Take the batteries out to stop this.
Here is how to disable WiFi on Roku and Roku enabled devices. This may also work for other Direct WiFi enabled electronics.
- Take the batteries out of the original Roku remote.
- Unplug Roku and plug it back in
- Use thethird party Roku IR remote (not included), to do the following, once Roku boots up
- Go to home.
- Advanced system settings.
- Device connect.
- Disable Device connect.
